How Does My Health Insurance Work?

• Premium: The monthly cost you pay for coverage. It can be $0 to the base cost depending on age, income, and family size.
• Deductible: The amount you pay out-of-pocket before insurance starts covering costs. Higher deductibles mean lower premiums. Bronze plans have higher deductibles but lower premiums compared to Silver plans.
• Co-payment: A fixed fee you pay for each medical service, like $10 for a doctor visit. This counts towards your out-of-pocket maximum.
• Co-insurance: The percentage of costs you pay after meeting your deductible. For example, you might pay 20% of covered expenses while your insurance covers 80%.
• Max-out of Pocket: The most you’ll pay for covered services in a year. Once you hit this limit, insurance covers 100% of additional costs.  This includes deductibles, co-payments, and co-insurance.
